Social and medical care for children with disabilities is in the focus of INCLUSION-EXPO 2020

10 / 12 / 2020
One of the central events of the online Russian Health Care Week 2020 was the International Forum INCLUSION-EXPO 2020: Rehabilitation. Accessible Environment. Assistive Technologies.

The forum is organised by the Russian Ministry of Health Care, the Moscow City Department of Health Care, the RUDN Department of Pediatric Neurology, Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, the Scientific and Practical Center for Child Psychoneurology, the Russian Rehabilitation Center ‘Detstvo’, the Research Institute of Health Care Organisation and Medical Management, with support of EXPOCENTRE AO, the National Association of Specialists in Cerebral Palsy, and the National Association of Pediatric Rehabilitation Therapists.

This year the forum’s programme includes the 10th Anniversary Interdisciplinary Congress with international participants, which brings together the 10th Congress on Cerebral Palsy and Other Movement Disorders in Children and the Russian Conference on Relevant Issues of Comprehensive Rehabilitation of Children with Nervous System and Musculoskeletal Disorders in a Rehabilitation Center.

Opening a scientific part of the forum, Head External Expert in Pediatric Medical Rehabilitation in the Russian Ministry of Health Care Tatiana Batysheva talked about the great importance of the discussed topics. According to her, since 2013 mental and behavioral disorders have ranked first among the most disabling diseases in children. Second place is firmly occupied by diseases of the nervous system with predominance of infantile cerebral palsy – more than 20%. At the same time, cerebral palsy accounts for over 50% of children's neurological disabilities.

The issues discussed at the forum attracted the attention of leading experts who deal with the problems of inclusion. Even though the event is held online due to the pandemic, INCLUSION-EXPO 2020 confirms its importance as a unique communication platform for interagency cooperation. There is an open dialogue between representatives of the medical community, social protection, manufacturers of rehabilitation equipment and means of individual rehabilitation, charitable foundations, psychologists, and educators.

Today's sessions, in particular, were devoted to new possibilities for pediatric neurological care, an interdisciplinary approach to organising care for children with nervous system pathologies, and correction of cognitive and behavioral disorders in children.

The forum participants also discussed key problems of the government policy, social and medical care for children with disabilities as part of the Health Care and Demography national projects, and the Decade of Childhood.
