NEW! Expocentre is presenting a new international forum on intellectual property Expopriority’2009
As the leader of the Russian exhibition industry, Expocentre is preparing to offer its exhibitors a new service. It is a Certificate of Disclosure that will be issued at the request of exhibitors who will be showcasing their inventions and innovations prior to patent application. The certificate will ensure that those inventions and innovations will not be invalidated through lack of novelty when filing a patent application. According to this Certificate the opening date of the exhibition will be considered a priority date.
Article 11 of Paris Convention on Intellectual Property allows a grace period for inventions, utility models, industrial designs and trade marks exhibited at the ‘official and officially recognized international exhibitions’.
The Forum Organizing Committee has worked out the application form and the form of the Certificate to be used at Expocentre’s exhibitions; both forms allow for peculiarities of the national legislation on intellectual property protection. The Committee is now working on recommendations to exhibitors on filling application documents for a grace period. They will help exhibitors to avoid prior art which can affect the patentability of their inventions. The recommendations will be published on the website of the Forum.
The new service is particularly important for small innovative companies established under state-owned research and educational institutions in accordance with Federal Law No. 217-FZ d.d 2 February 2009 as they have got unregistered innovations requiring commercial assessment prior to filing a patent application.
This service is planned to be launched at the 1st International Intellectual Property Forum -Expopriority’2009; it will be provided on request. From then on, the service will be available at all Expocentre’s exhibitions showcasing innovations and marked with the Approved Event logo of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) and/or the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs (RUEF), and independently audited.
The Intellectual Property Congress (incorporated into the Forum together with the Exhibition of the Latest Scientific and Technological Achievements) will be attended by the officials of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) and of the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs (RUEF); it will also welcome Russia’s prominent experts in intellectual property protection and exhibition industry specialists.
